David's story is much more than a story of the game of golf, it is a narrative that reveals how peace and God's grace can be found in the most unexpected circumstances.David L. Cook, Ph.D., Author/Executive Producer Seven Days in Utopia
A Long Walk with Sally will touch golfers, parents, and anyone who has faced the loss of a child. David's story is a testament that from the most unimaginable pain and darkness it is possible for the sun to shine again.
David Clark's walk began as he sat on a curb at 4:30 a.m. looking at the car his daughter and niece had been riding in...
A parent's worst fear and most unimaginable horror began on April 4, 2004. As his world was torn further apart, David's only wish was to escape--to walk away--but how could he?
How would he ever find the peace he so desperately needed?
On a golf course in Ireland, the answer came. Thus began a ten-year quest, taking David to 290 courses throughout the British Isles. As he was about to leave on his final trip, he looked out the windshield of his car and realized where he would find his peace.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
David Clark, Jr. is a successfully retired real estate developer, recognized community leader, and avid golf enthusiast. In early April, 2004, tragedy struck. David’s 19 year old daughter Sally and her cousin Anna Grace were killed by a drunk driver. David sought peace from his heartbreaking loss through a 10-year grief journey set on the wild links of golf courses in the British Isles. The beautiful golf courses became his sanctuary, a place for him to golf, grieve and find the peace God intended him to find.
A Long Walk With Sally chronicles David’s journey. He didn’t originally intend to write a book about his journey. However, friends and family members asked him to share his photos and experiences and soon he found he was writing his memories into a book. He was surprised and humbled to find that his book gave closure to friends and family as well as to himself.
David and his wife Jo also chose to honor Sally’s memory by building a YMCA in Sally’s name. Sally’s Y in Denver, NC opened in January 2011.
A devoted husband and father of two sons, David Clark Jr currently resides in North Carolina.
